Instagram is a social media platform that allows individuals to post photos and videos of elements from their everyday lives; this may include selfies, professional photography, tutorials, food, etc. As users of the website itself, we noticed that although the site is very laid back, many individuals use the platform as a place to showcase their professional work as well as to promote themselves as fashion experts, personal shoppers, makeup artists, etc. Because so many users are accustomed to using Instagram as entertainment, we noticed that there was a lack of professionalism in the website itself. This is where the analagous website - LinkedIn - comes into play.
LinkedIn is known as the world's largest professional networking platform. It allows people to create accounts and upload their resumes as well as connect with different companies and individuals that can help them within their careers. It provides better connections between people on a professional level and allows people to inquire about various jobs from both employers and employees. When looking at the website as a user, one would notice that the design and layout are very bland and straight to the point. It also seems a bit cluttered at times as there are many features that the site offers. The colors aren't very attractive and don't catch the attention of anyone. The element of the site that we wish to incorporate into the redesigning of Instagram are the abilities to connect with companies and showcase work in a much more professional and beneficial manner while maintaining the creative, visual, and no-pressure environment of Instagram.
The virus website that we chose to work with is Netflix. The main reason that we chose to use this website was because of the sorting of categories that the site offers as well as the personalization and preference-based recommendations. We want to incorporate those features into our new Instagram site (Instagram Pro) so that job searches and posts are categorized based on things that have been viewed, liked, and posted by the user. We also want to go with the feature of going back to certain things that the user has been viewing or visited frequently. This comes from Netflix's feature of being able to continue watching a show or movie every time that you log onto the account.
All three sites will work together to create a creative and visually based interface that is both easy to use and clean to navigate through. It will provide better connections between users and allow them to work together as professional individuals as well as showcase your work in a portfolio-style fashion.
Our target user-base for this site are creative professionals looking to showcase their work in a laid back environment without the pressures of an overwhelming site suhc as LinkedIn. We also aim to create a very personalized experience for the user so they are able to use the site to the highest beneficial level rather than being distracted with things that are irrelevant to their intended experience.
